Oil Sands Community Alliance Names New Executive Director

The Oil Sands Community Alliance (OSCA) is pleased to announce the organization’s new Executive Director, Perry Berkenpas.

Berkenpas takes over for Karim Zariffa who previously served as the organization’s Executive Director and is poised to continue OSCA’s work to ensure we continue to be a trusted and effective organization in the region.

With over 38 years’ experience in technical, operational and business leadership, Berkenpas has an in-depth understanding of the oil sands industry, having worked with ConocoPhillips for over 20 years, most recently as the Senior Vice-President of Oil Sands.

“I have a passion for oil sands and the benefit the industry provides to Alberta and the Athabasca Oil Sands Area. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to collaborating with our regional stakeholders to address socio-economic issues for the betterment of the communities where our members operate,” says Berkenpas.

Berkenpas comes to OSCA after a few years of consulting, as Managing Director of THINKbeyond consultancy, helping clients improve business strategies and performance.

As part of the role, Berkenpas will lead OSCA to address priorities within our four focus areas including regional response and recovery efforts, community wellbeing, strategic infrastructure planning, and strengthening relationships with our stakeholders.

2020 has brought numerous challenges, with the global pandemic, collapse in oil prices and one of the worst floods in the region. We continue to be in an extremely uncertain time but the oil sands industry and our local communities have a long history of collaborating to build and strengthen our region. OSCA remains committed to working together with our stakeholders going forward.
